Research networking for the environmental monitoring and mitigation of adverse ecological effects in the Black Sea Basin (BSB Net-Eco)

Research networking for the environmental monitoring and mitigation of adverse effects in the Black Sea Basin “BSB Net-Eco” is a 24 months project (5th July 2013- 4th July 2015), started under the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Programme 2007-2013. The project involves 6 partners from 5 countries: Institute of Electronic Engineering and Nanotechnologies and Institute of Ecology and Geography from Republic of Moldova; Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development from Romania; Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from Greece; Kerch State Marine Technological University from Ukraine and Karadeniz Technical University from Turkey. The priority of the project is sharing resources and competences for environmental protection and conservation through strengthening the joint knowledge and information base needed to address common challenges in the environmental protection of river and maritime systems.

The overall objective of the joint action is to improve the ability of the Black Sea Basin national and coastal authorities to respond timely and effectively to water pollution and strengthen the joint knowledge and information base needed among partners, target groups and final beneficiaries on addressing the common challenges of water pollution in BS Basin marine and river environment. The project proposes an efficient partnership between academia and society in order to solve problems, to fill gaps and to satisfy needs. The “BSB Net-Eco” project aims to address issues relating to the environmental monitoring and preservation at both the strategic and practical level. The practical experience and guidance to emerge from the project work will be of relevance to an array of stakeholders within BS Basin and beyond.

Three Agreements have been signed between AUTH (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and private companies for the exploitation of the results of the BSB Net-Eco project.
More particularly, the Hellenic companies ION PLUS, NORTH AEGEAN SLOPS  and WAOLIA ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES IKE signed equivalent cooperation Agreements with AUTH for using the results derived from the project in their business activities.
Through the Agreements, the three companies and AUTH will have the opportunity to explore the market dynamics of the project’s results and cooperate further in research and staff training in the field of marine environmental protection. for optimising and developing the oil spill response services that offers to private and public entities.
Such cooperation with target groups show clearly the BSB Net-Eco project success and sustainability.
