In the context of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of socio-economic systems after 1989, the role of the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources (CBUDRN) has become of strategic importance for INCDDD. Inventory and monitoring of wild species and natural habitats and assessing ecosystem services mostly through sustainable use of natural resources and landscape of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve are the main activities of the research teams within the department. This department brings together researchers with diverse fields of expertise making it possible to approach complex studies.<\/p>\n

The ecological restoration in the Danube Delta is one way of sustainable development of nature and local communities in the medium and long term. Since 1994, following Romania\u2019s accession to the Ramsar Convention \u2013 an international convention dedicated to the protection of wetlands- in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve there have been implemented the following types of projects: projects of ecological restoration of the wetlands which have been altered anthropogenically (dammed and drained), of restoration of degraded areas, and of improvement of the circulation of water \/ connectivity. Another category of projects implemented is the recovery and restocking of species.<\/p>\n
